Meet the team: Johan de Stigter

We would like to introduce you to Johan de Stigter. Johan is Senior Technical Consultant and the driving force behind our storage, VMware and data center solutions, which we design, build and manage. That he can ‘move mountains’ is shown not only by all his skills and certificates but also by the obstacle runs and crossfit he likes to do. You can’t fool Johan with 10 kilometers of mud and obstacles. A nice way out of all the hours behind a screen and keyboard.

How did you end up at SJ-Solutions?

I started working at SJ-Solutions about 10 years ago. Before that, I worked at other companies, which were customers of SJ-Solutions. That’s how I came into contact with one of the then technicians, who asked me at one point, if I would be interested in joining SJ-Solutions as a consultant. Now, almost 10 years later, I have seen the company grow, experienced the difficult periods and am proud of where we are now, as part of a larger group.

What knowledge do you add to the team?

I once started as a technician, with a focus on VMware, but my knowledge has always been quite broad. Nowadays, I mainly work in the areas of VMware, Storage and Pre-Sales. Due to my broad range of skills and ability to switch easily between different tasks, I often get involved in various projects. I also work across the three labels, with a focus on VMware, Storage and Datacenter.

What are the most important developments in your area of expertise?

In my profession, especially in the areas of storage, virtualization (VMware) and data centers, I have seen many developments in recent years. The increasing demands of applications on storage and compute have led to new technologies such as SSD and NVMe. These technologies have not only improved performance but have also led to new connectivity requirements. Ten years ago, SSD was hardly present in business, while it is now the standard. Because of my extensive knowledge and experience, and the ability to convey this to customers, I am often involved as a pre-sales technician to have conversations with customers from that perspective.

What is your passion and for what can we wake you up?

By nature, I am a true technician, so my passion lies in technology in the broadest sense of the word. I find almost everything to do with technology interesting, with the exception of back-up :). Others are better at that. I also get a lot of satisfaction from giving technical advice. When my advice is adopted by customers and they really notice the difference, it gives me great satisfaction. Besides work, I do a lot of sport, getting (and delivering!) a lot of energy from crossfit and obstacle runs. My next events are the Strong Viking Mud Edition and the Down Under Obstacle Run 2025.

Which project are you most proud of?

The project I am personally most proud of is the Infomedics project. Infomedics has been a satisfied customer for many years that I have seen grow. In the beginning they had a local setup, but now they have a twin-data center setup, with two separate data centers about 30 kilometers apart, and full synchronous storage replication. I managed this project from start to finish: from the choice of setup (storage, compute, software etc.) to the implementation of the data centers. Of course, this is always a collaboration with sales and the customer, because without teamwork these kinds of projects are not successful. Infomedics is still a satisfied customer, and I speak to them weekly. It is always nice to hear how our efforts are having a positive impact.
